10 Books From My 20s

Posted: September 18, 2008 in Books

Here are 10 books, outside the Bible, that I read while in my 20s that had huge impact on my life.

  • Life on the Edge (This is a comprehensive work written by James Dobson to help those in the “critical decade” (16-26) make crucial decisions with their life.)
  • The Wonderful Spirit Filled Life (After watching faith healers you have questions about “The Holy Ghost”. This helped me sort it out and to know that the Spirit is a person not an it. And oh by the way, HE is living inside me! (and you too if you are a believer)
  • Growing in Grace (The subtitle says it all, “When giving it all you got is still not enough.” This book helped me to understand more about God’s love for me.)
  • Self Talk (The way you feel is based on the things you keep telling yourself. If you really want to break out of anxiety or depression you have to change to way you think.)
  • On the Anvil (A short Lucado book that simply started me reading for pleasure.)
  • Wild at Heart (For a “careful” guy like myself, this book from a free spirit pushed me to be more on an adventure for God.)
  • The Ragamuffin Gospel (What we believe should eventually show up in how we live. If we’ve been radically affected by God love, we must show that to others.)
  • A Life Well Spent (We should use our money to buy time with the people we love the most. Buying things can often lead us away from them.)
  • Point Man (A Man is responsible for the spiritual health of his family. The adversary will try to remove the husband/father from leading the family so that he can have his way with his wife and children. This is a call to war for your family.)
  • A Tale of Three Kings (God taught me to submit to leadership, even when I don’t agree. Knowing that God himself will remove, change, or add leadership to a business, church, or government in His time and His way.
