Tempted, Accused, or Deceived: What’s the difference?

Posted: January 12, 2010 in Uncategorized

Temptation – Being enticed through the flesh to satisfy our desires through illegitimate ways that are contrary to the character of God. Temptations come at us through our senses and are burdens that we must endure. It is not sin to be tempted, it is only when we give into these, that it becomes sin.

Accusation – Lies originating from Satan about the character of a child of God based their temptations and sin. Temptation then accusation is the one-two punch of Satan. Here he entices Christians to sin, and then accuses them of their standing before God; which undermines their confidence in who they are in Christ.

Deception – Satan’s primary tool for defeating a believer by getting them to believe a lie about themselves, God, or someone else. Deception is different in nature of temptation and accusation in that it goes undetected by the believer. A person is aware of temptation and accusation; but they are unaware when being deceived.

If we are being deceived right now, we won’t even know it.
