The King’s Cross

Posted: April 22, 2011 in Uncategorized

I just finished reading the King’s Cross by Tim Keller; WOW! Every year around Easter I try to read a book about Jesus and the cross. I picked a good one this time. Keller has the ability to link happenings in the Old Testament to things in the New Testament in ways that I have not seen before. This book has been feeding me the scripture by walking me through the Gospel account of Mark. With great illustrations and exposition Dr. Keller moves through the book drawing you into the story of Jesus; His kingship as well as His passion and death. The book was Theological sound for the most part. (The only question I had was about Keller’s use of words “eternal disintegration” (p.205) as an illustration. I wasn’t sure if he was advocating annihilation for the lost as opposed to eternal suffering (in hell)). With that said it was a great read and I recommend it to those who want a fresh view Christ as He was and as He IS!

Don’t Miss Jesus at Easter

Posted: April 21, 2011 in Uncategorized

When Jesus was crucified the people in the city of Jerusalem were busy. There were things to buy, places to go, and things to do. With all the rush many missed “seeing” the Savior of the World as he was executed for their sins. Don’t let all that you “need” to do, keep you from missing the one thing we really must do – Namely focus on JESUS. In all of our business let us remember the sacrifice Jesus made for us. That in him all of our sin was placed and “He who knew no sin became sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21

Followers Not Leaders

Posted: April 1, 2011 in Uncategorized

Jesus isn’t looking for leaders he is looking for followers. My problems arise when I see myself as a leader instead of a follower. It is at that point that I start to sabotage the life God has given me. God created me to follow him, not lead myself. We are not adequate to even know what we want. Proverbs 20:24 reads, “A man’s steps are from the Lord; how then can man understand his way?” The answer is that he cannot, we cannot. We THINK we know where we are going but we do not. We do not need a best friend, we need a MASTER. Someone whom we may follow.

When we see ourselves as leaders we “think more highly of ourselves that we ought” (Rom 12:3). If today you are missing the peace of God, know that he is there waiting for us to drop our ideas of ourselves and surrender our strong will to Him and walk out in obedience AND love. Join me today as I surrender to him (again) as the Master of my life.

If we want to come after him we must deny ourselves, take up our cross, and………. Follow him. (Luke 9:23)

Prayer for His Church

Posted: March 24, 2011 in Uncategorized

Notice the subject line reads The Church not Our Church.  Let’s join with our Savior’s prayer this morning in John 17 as he prays for His church.

Jesus prayed “I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message,
21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.
22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one:
23 I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.v 20-23

Whoever comes and whoever goes, we must pray for this…..Ones; Ones with the LORD and ones with each other. This is not sameness where all Christians believe and act exactly alike. It’s a love for them that seeks their highest good over our own.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

John 13:34-35 (NIV)

Evernote

I started using Evernote a few months ago and love it.  if you are looking for one place to clip all of your web finding and reference them later then try Evernote.  I think the mobile version needs some work, but for the most part this system is worth having so that you can reference your web findings wherever you are (desktop, web, moblie device).  To learn more visit www.evernote.com

Great insight from Pastor Piper.  I’m teaching about some of this on Sunday.
